Review Topic: Naturalization

Garbage experience. I had my interview on 7/11/2023 in the afternoon. Passed my test and was given the N-652 at the end with "Congratulations! Your application has been recommended for approval." checked off. I was asked if I wanted to be naturalized that afternoon, to which I said "yes," and was escorted to the waiting room. We then went to another room and they collected my GC, and had me take the oath. Then, an HOUR later, the presiding officer told us that the "system was down," and half of us would not be getting naturalized that day. Our GCs were returned to us, and we were told we would receive a letter soon with an oath date. To date, I've called, sent a letter to the FO and contacted an agent via Emma, and to no avail. My online status still says "Interview was scheduled" and I have yet to receive any correspondence via mail. It's insane that I can't even get in touch with the field office to find out what's going on, which is likely that my file was forgotten about and is gathering dust. I refuse to believe that there's a pending background check or supervisor approval to be done. If there was, they wouldn't have offered to naturalize me right then and there. I'm beyond disappointed. Not being naturalized is affecting my travel plans and employment opportunities. 0/10 to the worst agency I've had the displeasure of dealing with.

Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

On the whole a very good experience. Had to wait outside until closer to our appointment time. The go through security was fairly swift and painless. Brief waiting time before being called for our interview. The interviewer was also generally very nice and straight to the point. Wasn't interrogating us, just asking questions.

Approved!

My interview was for 10:15 am. We arrived at 9:45 and sat in the car until 10.00. Went through security (nothing strange) then waited in the waiting room for "window one". I was called up within 2 mins and was asked to lower my mask and use the fingerprint scanner, then to "wait at the back of the room to be called". I was called in at 10:13, the officer took me back to an office that had a plastic partition between us, I did the oath and sat. Within a few seconds the civics test started and he said "correct" after each one. Then straight on to reading and writing test. Finally we went over the application to review any changes. The officer was professional, efficient and courteous. The officer never asked to see any of the items I had with me, (folder full). I was then asked if I wanted to come back for a 1:45 oath ceremony (to which I asked "what date?" after reading on forums that Montgomery did NOT do same day oaths. The officer laughed and said again "1:45" and then added "today". I was shocked but obviously took that and replied "yessssssss'. The whole interview took 20 mins.
The oath ceremony was pretty straight forward, same security check-in and sent to the same waiting room. At about 1:40 someone came to the waiting room and said "if you have this notice inviting you to the oath ceremony, plus this green card in your hand follow me". We were led towards a room on the opposite side of the security check-in and formed a line where the officer took the ceremony letter and the green cards and allowed you to move forward into the ceremony room. The room was large with social distancing enforced by the chairs being spaced at least 6' all around. Each chair had an envelope on it. (containing a small American flag, copy of the constitution, passport application. voting information and a copy of the oath).
The officer came in after checking everyone in and administered the oath, he then told everyone to check the certificate when they get it for errors, because it would be free to change it before you leave the office, but once you leave it's $600 to make changes to it. He called each person up to give them the certificate (about 10 of us). He then said we could take pictures before leaving in front of the huge patriotic wall mural (most of us did this). Family and loved ones were not allowed to come in but they were allowed to watch through the large window in the parking lot (to the left of the front door). The whole ceremony took maybe 10 mins.

Interview appointment was Sept. 3, 2021. This office is almost 4 hours away, and we made it pretty much exactly at the 15 minutes before interview time that they allow people to enter the building. A guard was walking around outside and asked if we had an appointment, while my husband was trying to get the dog hair and lint off his shirt. I said yes, and the guard asked what time, and then said to go on in and started to walk off. He turned back quickly and added, "Just the one with the appointment." My husband went in and returned about 15 minutes later. He was asked for interview letter and ID to enter. They were not busy, and he was called for his interview pretty much right away.

They looked at his passport and green card and that was it. They asked for no other documentation. I would still bring it, just in case like we did.

He was given an English test, which was to read, "Who lives in the White House?" He was then asked to write the answer, "The president lives in the White House."

He was asked these civics questions:
"What does the Constitution do?"
"What did Susan B. Anthony do?"
"Name a state that borders Canada."
"What are 3 of the original 13 states?"
"What are the two main political parties in the United States?"
"How many justices are on the Supreme Court now?"

The interviewer asked him the yes or no questions from the N400, and that was it. He said that he was putting in for his approval, and he would be getting an Oath Ceremony letter in the mail soon. He also falsely told him he would not have to make the long drive back to that office, but could have his Oath locally. I told my husband that sounds nice, but I know it is incorrect and we will be coming back.

We got notice of his Oath Ceremony not long after. It was for Sept. 18th, at the Montgomery, AL field office, just like I knew it would be. We again made it right at the 15 minutes ahead of time, and watched a woman getting her photo taken outside the building after getting her certificate. They had them chairs spread out from each other, and the man doing the Oath Ceremony was at the front of the room behind a shield. They gave them an envelope with their naturalization certificate, pamphlet and flag before the ceremony began. The family members lined up at the window to see the best we could, wondering why we couldn't just be allowed in with our spouses. We were able to get a short video through the glass. Not great, but better than the nothing at all I thought we would be able to get. They didn't have them repeat all of the Oath because of Covid. They didn't want them all talking and spreading germs through the room. Odd cause they all had on masks and were distanced. He had them all raise their hands and read the oath and had them all simply answer, "Yes, I do/will." to agree with the oath statement. That was it. They came outside and we were all taking pictures of and with our loved ones in front of the USCIS building. They rain was not making that easy, but we managed.

Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

Adjusted from K1 to temporary green card. Very smooth experience. In and out within 15 to 20 minutes (that’s with going through security too!!) Asked a few questions like when did we get married etc and the only evidence they took from me was my daughters birth certificate.
